Biography - John Gillespie
John Gillespie and his wife, Tessa, moved to the UK from the USA in 1987 with three small children. John served in the local Methodist Church until 1994 when he dissented over the issue of the authority of Scripture. He was dismissed in April 1994 and, along with our assistant pastor, Martin Bunkum, formed Grace Community Church. By October 1995, GCC was located here at Morval with a desire to be a Bible-based, gospel-centred, people-loving community ready to live the grace of God before our family, friends and neighbours.
John's particular gifts are in expository preaching, Bible teaching, and encouraging others. He wants to see the saints equipped for personal ministry and sent out to serve locally and abroad. John and Tessa now have seven children, three of whom are in full-time Christian ministry. They also have three grandsons and a granddaughter. John enjoys playing classical guitar, keeping fit on a road bike and gourmet cooking.

"Grace for Growth: Metaphors for Mission"
The New Testament Gospels and Epistles use various pictures to Encourage spiritual growth. We will look together at what the following five can teach us:
- Fishing - Jesus' promise to make his followers "fishers of men" in connection to 1st century fishing.
Mark 1:14-20 - Farming - Jesus' punchline that "he produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown" in connection to the parable of the sower.
Matthew 13:1-23 - Fruiting - Jesus' purpose that we can "bear much fruit... that will last" in connection to himself as the Vine.
John 15:1-17 - Financing - Jesus' principle that "to everyone who has, more will be given" in connection to the parable of the Ten Minas and Luke's focus on money.
Luke 19:11-27 - Fighting - Paul's proclamation to "put on the full armour of God" in connection with spiritual warfare and the climax of his letter to the church at Ephesus.
Ephesians 6:10-20
"It is my prayer that we can become better fishers, farmers, fruitiers, financiers and fighters in God's kingdom. Grace for growth in Jesus would enable us to make a great catch; produce a bumper crop; bear much fruit; obtain a good return and win the battle."
